Before the mural’s first brushstroke, the Oak Park Sol Community Garden (OPSCG) had already been a living canvas of collective effort.
Established more than fifteen years ago, OPSC grew out of a grassroots initiative to reclaim an unused lot near Broadway and 36th Street—turning neglect into nourishment.

Over time, it became a hub for local families, offering 15 individual garden plots, an outdoor teaching kitchen, and a communal space that brings neighbors together for learning, gardening, and celebration.
